Most of the grants given through the Omaha Community Foundation are made upon the advice of donors out of their own individual charitable giving accounts.  The Omaha Community Foundation also offers several competitive grant programs that are open to nonprofit agencies:

African American Unity Fund
Fund for Omaha
Futuro Latino Fund
Neighborhood Innovation Awards
Youth in Philanthropy
Endowment Funds of Southwest Iowa

Please note that each program has a different process and timetable, though all limit their grants to organizations, not individuals.

The Foundation also administers 22 Iowa scholarship funds.  If you, or someone you know, is looking for scholarship funds, please visit this page to see if you qualify.

For the competitive grants that are decided by committees, the Omaha Community Foundation uses a conflict of interest and ethics policy to ensure fairness in the distribution of available funds.  Committee members are chosen partly because they are involved members of the community and are likely to have affiliations that might pose conflicts of interest during the decision making process.  Our policy requires them to declare any conflicts and, for decisions that benefit an organization where they are a board member, they can join the discussion but must refrain from voting.  For decisions that benefit an organization where they or a family member are employed, they must refrain from discussion and voting.  If you have any questions about the committee decision making process, please contact Sarah Gilbert at (402) 342-3458 or sarah@omahafoundation.org.
